The book is the most in-depth depiction of the life of a Probationary Inspector of the Royal Hong Kong Police Force (RHKPF) during the 36 months of his first tour of duty from 1982 to 1986. The book covers his nine months of training as well as how he tackles the law and order issues that existed at the time in the Hong Kong melting pot, which was a much different place than it is today. Everybody wanted to better themselves, be it legally or illegally, with everyone working hard and playing hard, grasping opportunities as quickly as they could in what was a 24-hour city always on the go!

This book is published on the 40th Anniversary of the Inspector's arrival in Hong Kong. 2022 also happens to be the 25th Anniversary of the handover of Sovereignty over Hong Kong to Mainland China in 1997.
